 Motor Vehicle Fitter – Technical Location: Wenvoe, Vale of Glamorgan
Employment Type: Temporary
Duration: 12 Weeks
Start Date: 02 February 2026
Hours: 37 hours per week (shift pattern)
Pay Rates:
  • PAYE: £14.71 per hour
  • Umbrella: £19.08 per hour

About the Role Vale of Glamorgan Council is seeking two skilled and motivated Motor Vehicle Fitters (Technical) to join its Fleet and Vehicle Maintenance Workshop on a temporary basis. This role plays a vital part in ensuring the Council’s fleet remains safe, compliant, and fully operational in support of essential public services.
Working within a small, supportive, and professional team, you will be responsible for the maintenance, inspection, and repair of a diverse range of vehicles and plant equipment — from cars and light commercial vehicles to heavy goods vehicles and specialist machinery.

What You’ll Do
  • Carry out and assist with repairs and servicing of cars, light and heavy commercial vehicles, and plant equipment
  • Diagnose mechanical and technical faults accurately and efficiently
  • Prepare vehicles to MOT standards and complete work in line with DVSA regulations
  • Inspect vehicles to ensure compliance with safety and legal standards
  • Order parts and ensure vehicles are returned to service promptly
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain a high-quality workshop service

Working Hours Shift Pattern (Alternating Weeks):
  • Monday – Thursday: 6:30am – 2:30pm or 2:00pm – 10:00pm
  • Friday: 6:30am – 2:00pm or 2:00pm – 9:30pm

What We’re Looking For
  • NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds Motor Vehicle Craft Studies (Parts 1, 2 & 3) or equivalent
  • Experience working in a vehicle repair workshop environment (local authority experience desirable)
  • Proven experience preparing vehicles for MOT testing
  • Knowledge of vehicle inspection standards set by DVSA
  • Skilled in the repair of light and heavy goods vehicles
  • Holder of a valid VOSA/DVSA MOT Tester Certificate or willingness to obtain one
  • Commitment to ongoing training and professional development, including ultra-low emission vehicle (ULEV) technologies
  • Full UK Driving Licence (minimum Category B)
