We are seeking a
Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a nationally respected multidisciplinary building services consultancy in Birmingham. This is an exciting opportunity to lead mechanical design on high-profile projects across healthcare, education, commercial, and infrastructure sectors.
As a
Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will take ownership of complex mechanical systems, deliver innovative, sustainable solutions, and mentor junior engineers while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design across projects, including HVAC, heating, cooling, ventilation, and domestic water systems
- Prepare and review detailed calculations, specifications, reports, and design drawings
- Manage project deliverables from concept design through construction and commissioning
- Coordinate with electrical, sustainability, and other engineering disciplines for fully integrated MEP solutions
- Mentor and develop junior engineers and technical staff, fostering growth and knowledge sharing
- Engage directly with clients, architects, contractors, and stakeholders to provide expert advice and ensure design quality
- Promote sustainable, low-carbon solutions in mechanical building services design
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of UK building regulations, CIBSE standards, and emerging technologies
- Contribute to business development activities and support client relationship growth
Candidate Profile
- Degree-qualified in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering (BEng, MEng, or equivalent)
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working toward chartership (IMechE/CIBSE)
- Minimum 6+ years’ experience in mechanical building services design within a consultancy environment
- Strong knowledge of UK regulations, CIBSE guides, and sustainability standards
- Proven expertise in HVAC, chilled water, heating, ventilation, and controls design
- Proficient in mechanical design software: Hevacomp, IES, AutoCAD, Revit, or similar
- Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills
- Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and lead technical discussions
